May market video….dresses dancing dresses dancing!

DRESSES DANCING DRESSES DANCING!! We loved our May market!

Another month, another market.

Despite the weather..grey skies and brisk winds.. we had such a fantastic day at Southside on Saturday.

We are so so happy with the success of Southside so far, we’ve got such a bunch of happy campers participating, shopping and sauntering around in fancy dresses.

I cannot believe it’s almost a year since we started, and how we’ve grown!

We are quite in love with the new venue and location, prime spot I tell you.

There were so so many pretty dresses upon dresses and amazing accessories available. I think being on a Saturday is fabulous. We can now all play dress ups during the day and save ourselves from the fluster that can occur on a Saturday evening attempting to try on numerous outfits, ending up a with a floordrobe and donning something you have done before. Now more time to make a fancy bloody mary before heading out.. or as we consumed at our first Wonderfully Pretty market.. bloody mary shots! Such a fun idea

It was the lovely Rebecca from Whimsicale Dale (or you may refer to her as the delight that sells cupcakes/ cupcake lady) It was her birthday, she kept it from us until late afternoon the cheeky sod, if it’s anyone’s birthday on a market day - let us know! Extra fun times will be had! For the first time ever, I didn’t give in to temptation and went cupcakeless.. and then regreted it. So my advice, don’t even try. It’s not worth it and the cupcakes are sooo soo amazing it’ll be like christmas in your head.

I have to make a extra special mention to Jane (Zen moments), Laura Issell (Interior Hunter) and the market queen..our very own Anne for supplying the entertainment. Dancing around like jazzy jibba jabbas. Such a hoot! My eyes were tearing and cheeks were hurting from the joy it brought me!

This stemmed from me losing my nano, therefore usual playlists.. Anne bought in hers and well well well, 80s amazement. We even managed to have disco lights.. thank you RSL! It was the funnest thing, the video says it all, but of course it was so much better in person. If all footage was on there it’d be about 10minutes of fancy moves.

Now I don’t feel so sad about the missing nano situation.. every cloud has a silver lining and all that, a shiny glittery one it seems.

Here’s a few little fave shots of Saturday..

I feel like a dress ups day is required next month -June 30th! fancy hats, wigs and massive sunglasses…hmmm ponder central.

Come and join in the fun!

UMM… im assuming this is what heaven would be to some, no?

all about april :)

Well Saturday was quite the amazing time…

Thank you to everyone involved.. stall holders, market goers, the staff at St Kilda RSL and all helpers. It was by far our best market to date and we are so excited for what the future has to bring us.

Anne and I were both a little nervous prior to this one, being a new venue it was like a mini relaunch.. but we couldn’t be happier with the results. Personally, I was more hyper that evening than I get after consuming a bag of skittles and a red bull.

The new venue - St Kilda RSL on Acland St is very fitting for the market, as is Acland Street.. lots and lots of happy shoppers and the locals also seemed impressed with the new addition.

We ran a little competition on our facebook wall to win a $100 voucher to spend on Saturday, the winner being the lovely and fantastically stylish Sara Josephine Tobing. She was happier than a kid at a candy store, we’re so glad she won. Well deserved Sara!

she wrote up a cute little blog post.. check it out here-  http://sartobsibocahbadung.blogspot.com.au/

We had the little beauty Kristine handing out flyers, she did an amazing job and was dressed by the very talented Mariska Thynne from The Professor’s Daughter.

We also had editorial content in Fashion Journal magazine. I was so excited about seeing it in print, I spent a day on Chapel St in and out of all sorts of  places.. could not find it anywhere.. then 2 nights later after a casual dinner, BOOOOMMM! Found lots. It was such a good moment.

www.fashionjournal.com.au - you can flick through the magazine online. Oh the technology these days.

BIG CONGRATULATIONS TO REBECCA AT WHIMSICAL DALE! She sold OUT of the delicious cupcakes on Saturday..the stall holders dream!

The most flavoursome cupcakes ever… I’m so glad I got in quick! Bad luck to her housemate who was expecting leftover treats!

We obviously cannot get enough of markets… we decided to try and cure Melbourne’s Mondayitis by running a new evening market at 29th Apartment, Fizroy Street, St Kilda. We did a summer night market there in January and it was ever so fitting we wanted to make it a monthly occurance.

On Monday 14th May 2012.. we will be launching ‘Wonderfully Pretty’ which will run the second Monday of each month from 6pm-10pm. An evening of fabulous stalls, great variety of food & beverage options from 29th Apartments kitchen, live music and relaxing after the dreaded Monday back at work. We just want to bring more happiness to peoples lives.. we are on the right track!

As some of you may have noticed, I was taking mini videos all day.. I ended up having 130 little videos there to edit and compile into one delightful piece of work.

I realise that 4 minutes and 41 seconds is a long time however it was really hard to cut out all the prettiness that was recorded and you also get to enjoy the sounds of Iggy Pop’s ‘The Passenger’. Future vids will be shorter and sweeter <3

button for you, button. everyone loves buttons.

I don’t know if it’s just me and a couple of my like minded friends.. but i’m a fan of pretty buttons. I will buy an ugly shirt from an op shop to rip off the buttons and keep in a jar that ‘I will use these one day’.

The lovely Sarah Symes has combined two of my favourite things.. vintage fabric and buttons. She makes delightful button earrings using ‘grandmas quilting material’ along with cute bobby pins and headbands.

We’re ever so excited to have her on board for next weeks Southside Market with her brand ‘Sarah’s button earrings’ and she’s taken some time to answer a few questions….

SM: When and why did you start creating these wonders?

SS: I started when I was in uni, and I can’t even remember where I got the idea. I must have seen covered buttons online, found the button pieces and then discovered that you can get button pieces without the hook thing in the back, then hey presto stick an earring piece on and you have an earring! A little project I guess that was good procrastination from doing uni work (as well as copious amounts of Will & Grace).

SM: What are your top 3 inspirations?

SS: 1) Etsy. I could spend hours on that site just looking at everyone’s weird and wonderful creations. (HOW did they THINK of that?!)

2)  My grandpa. He was the most organised person I know, and very detailed. He died 15 years ago  and his shed still looks the same - screws in the screw box, drill bits in the drill box etc. Organisation like that never dies. He was super creative too; he taught me piano from when I was 2.

3)People in the TED conferences. They make me feel like a lazy arse sometimes but make me think “what if” too

SM: If you had to listen to one song on repeat for 48 hours straight..what would that be?

SS: Jet Airliner by the Steve Miller Band. Not sure why but every time it comes on in the car I have to put it on repeat…so I know I can handle at least half an hour, why not 48? Good lyrics too.

SM: Who would you like to swap lives with for the day, and why?

SS: A professional surfer. They seem to have a cruisy life, hanging out at the beach all the time, all around the world. Just the sun and the sand and the surf. Apologies to all the surfers out there, I’m sure you’re super busy and your life isn’t like this at all! I like to dream.

SM: Describe the perfect weekend..

SS: A perfect weekend would be a getaway to the hot springs in Rye with the boyfriend. And one where our house is cleaned by someone other than us. Bliss!

Thank you Sarah!
